This year’s event is going to be different: the streamlined version will focus purely on the swim. Without bucket collectors, the organisers have had to come up with alternative ways of raising money for this year’s local beneficiaries – The Dai Rees Foundation, Tenby Memory Cafe & Tenby RNLI.
Swimmers are being asked to register online and to pay an entry fee of £10. The entry fee will then be dispersed amongst the three charities. And every registered swimmer will receive in the new year’s post a Golden 50th Swim certificate.
In addition, the organisers hope the number of swimmers entering the swim this way will provide a guide to the the total likely to be attending; this should help determine the layout of the ropes used on the beach to gather the swimmers and then start the swim. Chris Osborne, Chair of TSSA, commented: “We hope swimmers will consider the background in which we are running this event and therefore help us raise charity funds and simultaneously support our organisation’s efforts to run the swim safely.”
